Our Christmas
holidays begin the 24th of December, it is Christmas Eve. For this day, houses
are decorated with ornaments: a Christmas tree, nativity scenes, lights and
wreaths on the doors. At night, families have dinner together. It’s common to
have lamb, soup and seafood. For dessert, we have Spanish nougat and
“polvorones”. Then, a lot of people go to the church for the midnight mass.
When they go back home, there are some gifts from Father Christmas under the
Christmas Tree. The 25th is important because it’s Jesus’ birth.
On the 31st
of December, all people eat twelve grapes, one per second until it’s twelve
o’clock p.m. Then, it’s New Year’s party. The last day of holidays is the 6th
of January when the Three Wise Men come. They bring presents to people. For
breakfast and for lunch, people eat a round cake. Inside the cake, there is a
toy and a bean. The person that gets the toy is the king for the whole day and
the person that gets the bean has to pay for the cake.
This is how we
celebrate Christmas in Spain.

Christmas
in Spain is celebrated from the 24th December to the 7th
January. At home we always arrange a Christmas Tree that has got a lot of
ornaments and we arrange a Nativity Scene about Jesus’ birth. The streets have
got Christmas lights and Christmas Trees and at churches there are Nativity
scenes. For Christmas Eve families have dinner together. We usually eat lamb, ham,
prawns and nougat. When we finish dinner, Father Christmas brings presents for
the children and later people play cards. On Christmas Day people get up later
and the first thing children do is to play with their new presents. At midday,
families get together for lunch. The next day people don’t do anything special
until the 31st of December that is the last day of the year. People
celebrate it eating a grape for one of the twelve seconds of the New Year like
a symbol of good luck. On the 5th January, the Three Kings arrive,
they come from Orient and they bring presents for the children. Finally, on the
6th January we eat a big round cake with some figures inside, one of
the kings and a bean.
